Packing for Bartle Summer Camp can be daunting for new parents and new scouts.   The following guide has been used successfully by Scouts and parents in previous years to learn what to bring - and what not to bring.

Mike Wehmeyer    Wednesday, 04/22/09 8:04 pm

This document contains the 1st Year Camper Schedule (first_year_camper_schedule.pdf ).  Please note that the Environmental Science Merit Badge requires work completed prior to camp.  The appropriate worksheet to track and document this work is in the Merit Badge Prerequisites and Worksheets document (prerequisites_and_worksheets_for_merit_badges.pdf ).  Please see that document and the Merit Badge Program Information document,(merit_badge_program_information.pdf ) for more information about these merit badges and their requirements.

Merit Badge Prerequisites and Worksheets
Mike Wehmeyer    Wednesday, 04/22/09 7:04 pm

As your son considers which merit badge classes he will sign up for, have him keep in mind that some merit badges have requirements that must be completed prior to camp if the scout is to complete the merit badge.  The prerequisites are described for each Merit Badge in the Merit Badge Program Information document ( merit_badge_program_information.pdf ).  The Merit Badge Prerequisites and Worksheets document ( prerequisites_and_worksheets_for_merit_badges.pdf ) includes worksheets to assist with completion and verification for the requirements completed prior to camp.  The following merit badges have requirements that must be completed prior to camp session:

Astronomy, Bird Study, Camping, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Management, Journalism, Nature, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Weather, and Wilderness Survival.

Additional worksheets for all merit badges can be found on:

http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php?title=Merit_Badge_Worksheets

Also, the following merit badges require that the scout demonstrate knowledge of CPR, so your son may need to prepare for this in advance:

Canoeing, Kayaking, Lifesaving, Motorboating, Rowing, Small Boat SSailing, Swimming, and Water Sports.
